Presently a professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University with expertise in the treatment of brain tumors, stereotactic radiosurgery and spine surgery (complex and minimally invasive). Expert in pediatric neurosurgery and formerly Chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital in Orange County, CA. Repeatedly honored a one of “America’s Top Surgeons” by the Consumers’ Research Council and “Best Doctors in America” by Best Doctors.
Is founder and director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University in the Stanford Institute of Neuro-Innovation and Translational Neurosciences (SINTN) of which the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor.
Serves on the board of a number of non-profits including the Dalai Lama Foundation as Chairman and the Friends of New Orleans. Serves on the International Advisory Committee of the Council for the Parliament of the World’s Religions (CPWR).
